Union Station Neighborhood Co.

Public Spaces

Public spaces define a development project. Think about it. There are a number of Union Stations throughout the country, and passengers expect timeliness, smooth connections and quality service. It is the aesthetics of a station that is remembered.

That is why Denver Union Station designed six public plazas throughout the neighborhood.

Two of those spaces are encompassed within the historic Union Station site. What are currently metered parking lots to the left and right of the station will become the active, open Denver Union Station Plaza South and the relaxing, shaded Denver Union Station Plaza North.

After entering the transportation portion of the station, there is the Kinetic Plaza that overlooks the train platform and shares its space with an energy inspired event hall.

Walking down 17th Street will feel like a whole new Denver once the neighborhood is complete. Along three city blocks between the station and Riverfront Park there will be three collectively different plazas.

First, the Wewatta Plaza flirts with indoor-outdoor space that is ideal for the quick bite in between trains.

Second, the 17th Street Linear Plaza is a two-block corridor of outdoor dining, new retail shops and lush gardens.

Lastly, the Light Rail Plaza connects Denver’s suburbs to downtown in a playful, welcoming fashion with a playground inspired garden.
